Texture Tuesdays

By Cheryl | Filed in Texture Tuesdays

I just love Texture Tuesdays and another chance to play with Kim Klassen’s textures.  On this image, I used her “awaken” and “goldenrod” textures.

How I shot the Super Moon

By Cheryl | Filed in Everday Life

I decided to share how I shot the Super Moon, my camera settings, and the editing I did.  I do want to say that I’m by NO means an expert and although I haven’t had time to search Flickr or other places, I’m sure there’s photos out there I’d be drooling over!   I just did the best I knew how with what I had and wanted to share.

The first photo is SOOC – no editing.
I used a Nikon D90 on a tripod with my Tamron 28-300 1:3.5-6.3 lens,  ISO 200, F/11, 1/250, 300mm

The second photo was cropped to a 5×7 in Lightroom.  I lowered the exposure just a bit to bring out more of the dark areas of the moon.  I increased the black slider from 0 to +5, again to get more of the dark areas.  I moved the Clarity slider up to 40, Vibrance to +3 and Saturation to +3.  And that was really all the editing I did to the photo.

Cropping your photo will bring the subject closer.

Scripture and a Snapshot

By Cheryl | Filed in Scripture and a Snapshot

There was nothing I’d rather use than this photo I took lastnight for today’s Scripture and a Snapshot.

Another share of the Super Moon

By Cheryl | Filed in Everday Life

On this photo, I brought it into Photoshop, cropped the photo to 100%.  I duplicated the layer and used a soft light blend mode to bring out a little more detail.  I sharpened a bit and used Black & White Creative Look 1 Preset in Lightroom.  Camera settings:  NikonD90, ISO 200, 1/250, F11, focal length 200mm

Super Moon of 2012

By Cheryl | Filed in Everday Life

I took 16 photos of the moon lastnight.  I did pare them down to just a few and I wanted to share just one with you.  Oh how I wish I had one of those HUGE-A-NORMOUS lenses for my camera.  LOL

Beyond Layers – Day 31

By Cheryl | Filed in Beyond Layers

Today is about books and sharing our favorites.  This was really hard to decide as I LOVE reading!  I chose these for the photo along with my Nook.  I’m a romantic at heart and love reading the historical romance novels on the Nook.  AND since it’s NOT a color nook, I am currently reading on my PC “Inner Excavation” by Liz Lamoreux and “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron.  Never enough hours in the day!  LOL

Here’s the original photo.

And here’s my textured photo using Kim Klassen’s “hearbeat” texture.  I LOVE seeing the texture so I left it at a little higher opacity with the Multiply blending mode but removed the texture from the books.  I decided to leave the books in front of some of my texture supplies for this exercise.

Test Kitchen Play with Texture

By Cheryl | Filed in Test Kitchen

I ALWAYS have fun and enjoy working with Kim’s Test Kitchen textures.  This texture was called Deep Sigh.  I’ve been trying to find one that’s just right for this photo.

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day, a great day for working in the flower garden and taking random photos of what was going on in our world.

This first one was a shocker!  The day prior to this, Gene and Steve had driven the truck to town and the very day after, this is what we found.

And like I said, I just HAD to shoot some more flowers.

Coral Bells Bud -

Columbine Bud and then one flowering -

The Ajuga -

And then I decided with the siding as my background, it might make a lovely photo of my Homer Laughlin Pitcher and Bowl set – and I can’t wait to work magic on this one with my textures, blending modes, and layer adjustments!

Gene and Steve decided it was time to get this old gal out for a Sunday bath! -

Scripture and a Snapshot

By Cheryl | Filed in Scripture and a Snapshot

As I thought this morning on a verse I wanted to use today, I opened my Bible, and there it was.  And it couldn’t have been more fitting as it’s true…..everyday as I watch the Earth unfold from its winter slumber, I’m amazed at the change and beauty to behold.

Beyond Layers – Day 29

By Cheryl | Filed in Beyond Layers

Oh what a fun couple of exercises in Kim’s Beyond Layers class today!  And I actually made the post on THE day of the exercise.

The first was an animation made in Photoshop Elements.  I’m sure enjoying learning PSE and all the cool things you can do with it.  Please know that may grandson was not hurt, didn’t get sick, did get lots of laughs and then lots of snuggles and kisses too!  I just LOVE taking sequence shots.

And this is a triptych with a set of textures I made recently and I learned it all from Kim’s Art of Textures class.  Love ya Kim!!  You’ve given me my creativity BACK, something I truly LOVE doing!
